To Mac or Not to Mac?
Tuesday, November 21, 2017Wow, seems like a selfish thought for a new mom who is about to give birth.

But hear me out, yo.
This post is my attempt to
See, my Asus computer has almost died on me a couple of times, and I, too, could almost die when that happens.
I break out in cold sweat, thinking how the belle am I to move on with my life without a laptop.
Freelancing is my business and without my laptop, I'm going to be broke—and crazy!
So far, it has:
- Booted for an hour or so that I thought it's never going to power up
- Prompted that something's broken and it needs to recover something
- Lags for forever whenever an image is not completely saved or downloaded (have to wait for like 30 minutes to delete it)
- Lags when I leave it with the Upwork tracker on
- Eats up 100% of disk space(!)
- Dies when I don't plug it in (battery's been broken for months)
So far, for the past weeks, I tamed my loyal laptop. Knowing what causes the troubles, I know "which spots to step onto to avoid the creaks".
I think I'm rocking it. So far.
But, then, last week, my external keyboard gave up too. The qwerty line was broken:
- q ---> q1
- w ---> w2
- e ---> e3
- y ---> y6
- u ---> u7
- i ---> i8
- o ---> o9
- p ---> p0
- end ---> +
- Page Down ---> 9
I kind of cried a little because of all the things that have been happening:
Broken laptop.
Broken external keyboard.
Then, this week, (broken) ISP.
Broken laptop.
Broken external keyboard.
Then, this week, (broken) ISP.
I can't afford to not to work because I have a little one coming in a few weeks (and we're still a bit far from the baby fund stretch goal, which is 100% of our initial goal, lols).
And I was also forward-thinking. I know I'll be multi-tasking in the upcoming months. The hilarious parenting posts illustrate how different (and effing hard) life is with a baby.
*gulp*
So, how can I manage with a sensitive laptop.
I posted this on my FB diary page.
And so far, friends are recommending me to go Mac...
Pros of owning a Mac
- Superior performance and no viruses (my Apple phone is still super fast)
- Don't need to upgrade in a couple of years (my current laptop is only 3 years old, but it feels like it's already 10)
- Excellent battery life
- Superb display
Cons of owning a Mac
- It's expensive than other laptops
- I have to adjust to the new system
I've been thinking about it long and hard...
I have lots to spend on. I have a baby to deliver then baby things to buy. But my laptop is my source of income too.
If ever I decide to buy one, it's just going to be the MacBook Air 2017. I just hope there's a Rose Gold version, but there's none for this model.

Guess I'll have my answer pretty soon.
