Baby Things That I'm Buying For The First Year

Monday, November 20, 2017

I'm the chill pregnant lady, but when my hubby mentioned to my baby that he has more or less 4 weeks to go (we're prepping ourselves that baby can go out by week 37), I kind of panicked inside.

What? 4 months na lang?

Babyyyyy doesn't have a crib, car seat, and the other essentials yet. I just managed to complete most of babyyyyyy's initial needs for the hospital. (Updated the checklist, but I think I need more, lol)

So, I'm starting another checklist of what to buy for the next couple of weeks. I'm waiting for my mom to fly over and I'm reserving some items to purchase so we can go shopping together.

NEW BABY CHECKLIST

Seriously, I never thought that the amount of stuff that a newborn needs is overwhelming and it can really take a major bite off your budget.

But, I'm loving the shopping part. And I want to buy all the cutesy onesies that I see online without losing my sense of practicality. (Good luck, self.)

So, I've compiled a bunch of checklist from the Internet (yes, Google's my wise old granny) and modified it to suit my taste. Here it is.

Baby Clothes

Although I'm attempted to binge shop all the cute clothes that I can see, I don't because babies grow so fast. It would be impractical to buy expensive sets only to be outgrown after 2-3 months.

I have most of these ready. The number is just an estimate.

[✔️] 3 Sleepsuits or onesies
[✔️] 6 Tie-shirts
[✔️] 4 Baby blankets
[✔️] 24 Newborn nappies
[✔️] 4 pairs of socks or booties
[✔️] 2 pairs of mittens
[✔️] 3 hats
[✔️] 4 Bibs
[✔️] Hangers
[✔️] Gentle laundry detergent

Nursery + Bedding

We live in a tiny one-room apartment, so it's certain that there will be no separate room for baby. Our room is large enough to fit in a bed, a sofa, and a crib, and a TV set, making it all good.

[  ] Crib
[  ] Firm, flat mattress
[  ] Nightlight
[  ] 3 washable mattress pads
[  ] 2 waterproof inserts
[  ] Pillow
[  ] Blankets

Feeding

I'm going to go for breastfeeding, so wish me and baby luck.

[✔️] Nursing pillow
[  ] Burp cloths
[  ] 6 bottles
[  ] Breast pump
[  ] Bibs
[  ] Milk storage bags
[✔️] Bottle brush
[  ] Dishwashing liquid
[  ] Bottle drying stand
[  ] Sterilizer

Bath

I'm excited to buy the cute bath stuff that I found at the mall.

[✔️] Hooded towels
[  ] Baby bath tub
[  ] Baby soap
[  ] Baby shampoo
[  ] Hairbrush
[  ] Soft washcloth
[  ] Small thermos

Diapering

I'm still torn if I'm going for reusable diapers or go for the disposable ones.

[  ] Changing pad
[  ] Rattles
[  ] Baby wipes
[  ] Alcohol

Health

I'm kind of nervous about having to use the nasal aspirator. Hope I don't get to use it.

[  ] Nail clippers
[  ] Baby thermometer
[  ] Petroleum jelly
[  ] First aid kit
[  ] Bulb nasal aspirator

Travel

We'll probably need these a bit later, but just have to list them down.

[  ] Stroller (Mamas & Papas Armadillo Flip XT because of this story)
[  ] Car seat

Play

Still have no idea and no plan for this yet. I'd like to study Montessori learning and get toys that can assist the lessons.

[  ] Books (definitely!)
[  ] Playmat
[  ] Balls

That's all, I think. I'm just going to update this list as I go on with my journey. Any recommendations?
